You will hear the sounds of trains going by, construction forklifts beeping, etc. The factory works through the night. Some nights are more noisy than others, and unfortunately this is out of our control. Sunday nights tend to be the quietest as often the factory is off work! Our family lives nearby and is not usually bothered by it, but we realize it's not for everyone, particularly if you're a light sleeper. The caboose has sound-proofing and double layers of insulation around the bedroom area, and we provide a white noise machine and portable fan for your added comfort. *You must be 25 years or older to reserve James Station. ADDITIONAL GUESTS: If you have more than 3 in your group wanting to stay, we also offer a 1 bedroom apartment AND a separate 5 bedroom home nearby that you may rent in coordination with your stay. Look up our listings (under Amy's profile) "River View Downtown Historic Apartment" or the "Candy Apple." HOSTED BY: James Station is a part of the All Belong Collective, a local small business dedicated to providing 5 star stays. Our team will take good care of you! SMALL GATHERINGS: Gatherings and small events are considered on a case by case basis and include an event fee. Please message our team & provide as many details as possible. SO MUCH TO DO NEARBY! JAMES STATION KIDS: We offer a James Station kids package ($25) that comes with a kids' conductor hat, bandana, branded train whistle, & sticker book to make their stay even more enjoyable. Just let our team know if you're interested!

Other Details to Note

Save our listing: click the heart in the top right corner! POTENTIAL FOR NOISE: Situated on the river is a historic iron pipe factory and a railroad. You'll get to see some trains go by and watch the workings of a 24-hour factory (a rare glimpse at American manufacturing!). These industries are not noise free! Our family lives in the neighborhood and is not bothered by it, but we realize it may not be for everyone and some nights are louder than others. We've added noise reducing insulation to the caboose and also provide a white noise sound machine as well as a fan in the bedroom area should guests feel they need it. POTENTIAL OF TOURISTS: Our caboose is listed as one of Virginia's official "LOVE"works tourism signs, so on occasion someone might drive up and want to take a picture of the caboose from the street. Only our registered guests are allowed on the deck itself, so please let us know if there are any issues.

Accessibility and Availability

Neighborhood

James Station sits atop Daniel's Hill: a beautiful, historic neighborhood within walking distance of downtown Lynchburg's shops, restaurants, and events. At the end of the street is an entrance to the Blackwater Creek Trail system, which provides guests miles of paved (and unpaved) walking, hiking, & bike trails. In our neighborhood, you'll find some brick-paved roads flanked with historic lamp posts, a bustling community center with a fenced-in park and playground, sidewalks in both directions, and architecturally impressive homes built from the 1820's to the early 1900's. The people in our neighborhood are just as beautiful and diverse as the houses themselves, ranging from residents who have lived in the neighborhood for 50+ years and others who are new to Lynchburg. On the block alone, there are families with young children, single professionals, and elderly folks. It is a "front porch" neighborhood where everyone knows everyone and they watch out for one another. We love this neighborhood and are proud to call it our family's home.

Absolutely stunning place to stay just like the pictures! Got to meet one of the owners and he was so nice! The mill below does make some beeping noise with fork lifts moving around but it didn’t bother me one bit. The place was clean and spotless and I felt safe being a solo female traveler the entire time I was there. Some deer showed up on my last night there and I got to watch them from the train car while enjoying the view of the river. The hiking in Lynchburg is on point as well if your joint are still good to tolerate it! A nice relaxing getaway for a solo traveler and a reasonable price! Definitely recommend!

This is a spectacular and unique property…we loved it. Had a great stay and we were sorry it was just for one night. We also appreciated the tips for the area provided online by the hosts. There is a bit of noise on the river from manufacturing, but it didn’t bother us, and it was clearly disclosed in property description.

Loved our stay at the caboose! It was exactly as described with a lot of cool features. We loved the outdoor space as well! We could hardly hear the steel plant below with the fan going at night. Such a fun and unique experience!

Our family had a fantastic time at the Caboose - between the indoor hammock chairs and the stunning view, our 7yo proclaimed he was "in heaven"! It feels very spacious and the AC kept things cool during our stay at the end of June. Lots of great recommendations for local restaurants. There's some sound from the factory below, but it didn't bother us at all with the white noise machine. Definitely one of our most unique and memorable stays!

We really enjoyed our little getaway to Lynchburg. The caboose is sitting at a beautiful little spot overlooking the water and the steel factory. It looked exactly like the pictures and was very clean. Though it’s small, but it is beautifully done done to maximize space and has every amenity you would need. We enjoyed sitting on the swing and looking at the river and the hustle and bustle of the factory. The horse were very responsive and we even got to meet and chitchat with the owner and he suggested a bunch of cool spots. If you have a bike, bring it. The whole town is very bike friendly. The bike rental shop is closed on Sunday so we were bummed that we didn’t bring our bikes. We can’t wait to go back again and waiting for their new property right next-door. Thank you for the memories!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Everyone enjoyed the views: watching the water fall over the dam, the trains going by, the wildlife, and even the busy pipe factory. The neighborhood is full of history and connects to the walking/biking trail to downtown. The caboose itself is fabulous with the picture windows and comfortable furniture. I especially liked the full size shower! A++
